Field notes

It is primarily an arboreal species, rarely descending to the ground to feed unlike many other pigeons.
The bill features a distinctive pale ivory or yellow tip contrasting with a bright red or pinkish base.
Its diet is highly specialized toward wild fruits and seeds, including acorns, figs, and mistletoe berries.
During courtship, males perform a dramatic display flight involving steep climbs followed by a circular glide.
