It was formerly classified as a subspecies of the Rainbow Lorikeet but was elevated to species status based on distinct morphological and genetic differences.
Unlike most of its relatives, this species lacks a blue head and red breast, instead featuring a uniform green plumage with a pale lime-green collar.
It possesses a specialized brush-tipped tongue designed to efficiently extract nectar and pollen from flowering forest trees.
The species is currently categorized as Near Threatened due to the dual pressures of habitat loss and the illegal cage-bird trade.
Leaf Lorikeets are highly social and are typically observed in small, fast-moving flocks foraging in the upper strata of the forest.

Habitat

Primary and secondary moist tropical forests, forest edges, and occasionally disturbed woodlands up to elevations of 1,400 meters.
