Field notes

Exhibits strong sexual dimorphism, with males possessing a red-purple head while females have a bluish-grey head.
Features a very long, slender blue tail with a distinct white tip that is visible during its fast, direct flight.
Unlike many other parakeets, they are known for relatively musical and mellow calls rather than harsh screeches.
They are highly social birds, often forming large communal roosts in forest trees outside of the breeding season.
They possess a narrow yellow collar and a black chin stripe which further distinguishes the male's plumage.

Habitat
