Field notes

It possesses a unique yellow iris surrounded by a ring of bare, reddish orbital skin.
The species is highly water-dependent and is frequently seen in large numbers at watering holes.
Unlike the similar Ring-necked Dove, it has a pale grey forehead and a more robust build.
The tail shows extensive white on the outer feathers, which is most visible during takeoff and landing.
