It features a prominent yellow-orange crown that contrasts sharply with the deep blue coloration of its cheeks and lores.
The species is currently classified as Near Threatened, primarily due to habitat fragmentation and historical trapping for the pet trade.
Unlike many related species, its orange-red wing patch is concentrated on the outer vanes of the secondaries, visible mainly in flight.
