A small, streaked finch endemic to the high-altitude plateaus and rocky slopes of the southwestern Arabian Peninsula.

What it sounds like

Field notes

Formerly classified in the genus Carduelis, it was moved to Linaria following molecular phylogenetic analysis.
Breeding males develop a subtle pinkish-red wash on the breast and forehead, distinct from its more colorful European relatives.
It is a high-altitude specialist, predominantly found at elevations between 1,800 and 3,000 meters.
The species is often observed in association with Juniperus procera woodlands and traditional stone-walled agricultural terraces.
Outside of the breeding season, individuals form small, nomadic flocks that frequently congregate near montane water sources.

Habitat

Montane juniper forests, rocky scrubland, and high-altitude agricultural areas.

Range

Southwestern Saudi Arabia and western Yemen.
