Field notes

It is endemic to the island of Taiwan, primarily inhabiting mid-to-low altitude broadleaf forests.
The species practices cooperative breeding, where non-breeding helpers—usually older siblings—assist in raising the current brood.
Its graduated tail can reach up to 40 centimeters in length, accounting for more than half of the bird's total body size.
They are opportunistic omnivores known to cache surplus food in the ground or under leaf litter for later consumption.
The birds are highly territorial and have been known to aggressively dive-bomb humans and other animals that approach their nesting sites.

Habitat

Broadleaf evergreen forests, foothills, and occasionally suburban parks or orchards.
