Field notes

Males possess a ring of cobalt-blue feathers around the eyes, while females are almost entirely green.
They are among the smallest parrots in the world, typically measuring only 12 to 13 centimeters in length.
The species is known to use 'vocal signatures,' where individuals develop unique contact calls to identify themselves within a flock.
They frequently nest in abandoned woodpecker holes, but have adapted to use fence posts and building crevices in agricultural areas.
Outside of the breeding season, they gather in large, noisy flocks that can exceed 100 individuals.

Habitat

Lowland forests, scrublands, woodland edges, and open agricultural regions.

Range
