Field notes

It is the smallest member of the genus Delichon, measuring only about 13 centimeters in length.
Unlike its relatives, it possesses a solid black chin and throat that contrast sharply with its white underparts.
The species constructs globular mud nests in dense colonies on sheer, overhanging cliff faces.
It has a square-ended tail, which lacks the deep fork found in the Common and Asian House-Martins.
While mostly sedentary, it undergoes altitudinal migration, moving to lower elevations during harsh winter months.

Habitat

Deep river valleys, forested ridges, and rugged mountain cliffs between 1,000 and 4,000 meters.

Range

The Himalayas and mountainous regions of South and Southeast Asia, spanning Nepal, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
