Field notes

It possesses a bright orange or red cere and legs, which are diagnostic features against its otherwise muted plumage.
Unlike many other goshawks, the adults lack any barring or streaks on their white underparts.
The species primarily feeds on small reptiles, especially skinks, as well as insects and occasionally small birds.
Juveniles are markedly different from adults, featuring dark brown upperparts and heavy streaking on the breast and belly.
It is often observed perching quietly in the mid-to-upper canopy, making it difficult to spot despite its pale coloration.

Habitat

Lowland rainforests, forest edges, and secondary growth up to approximately 1,500 meters.

Range
