Field notes

It lacks the distinct colored eye-rings found in many other closely related Pycnonotus species.
Highly adaptable, it is one of the most common birds found in African suburban gardens and urban parks.
The species is a significant seed disperser, consuming a wide variety of fruits, berries, and occasionally nectar.
Pairs are typically monogamous and remain together year-round, often engaging in mutual preening.
While primarily fruit-eaters, they are opportunistic and will hawk for insects in mid-air or glean them from foliage.

Habitat
