Field notes

Formerly classified as a subspecies of the Orange-spotted Bulbul before being elevated to full species status.
It is currently listed as Endangered due to its extremely small geographic range and pressure from the illegal cage-bird trade.
Displays prominent, large orange-yellow spots on the lores and forehead that are more extensive than in its close relatives.
Primarily confined to the Gayo Highlands within the Aceh province, specifically around the Gunung Leuser National Park.
Its diet is primarily frugivorous, consisting of small berries and fruits foraged in the sub-canopy and canopy layers.

Habitat

Montane forests, forest edges, and scrub at elevations typically above 1,000 meters.
