Field notes

The species is named after Charles Lucien Bonaparte, a renowned French ornithologist and nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte.
It was historically considered a subspecies of the Painted Parakeet (Pyrrhura picta) before being elevated to full species status based on morphological differences.
The bird possesses distinctive buffy-white ear coverts that contrast sharply with its dark crown and green cheeks.
Like many Pyrrhura species, it exhibits a 'scaly' appearance on its throat and breast caused by pale feather margins.
It is highly social and typically observed in noisy, fast-flying flocks of 5 to 15 individuals navigating the forest subcanopy.

Habitat

Lowland evergreen tropical forests, particularly terra firme and seasonally flooded varzea forests.

Range
