The Viridian Dacnis is a small, brilliantly colored tanager restricted to the humid lowlands of the Chocó and Darién regions. It is easily identified by the male's vibrant greenish-blue plumage and striking yellow iris.

Field notes

It is a range-restricted species endemic to eastern Panama and northwestern Colombia.
The male features a distinctive black mask and yellow eye that contrast sharply with its viridian body.
Females exhibit sexual dimorphism, being primarily olive-green above and buffy-yellow below.
They are primarily canopy dwellers, making them difficult to observe from the forest floor except at edges.
The species often joins mixed-species foraging flocks alongside other tanagers and honeycreepers.

Habitat

Humid lowland forest canopy, forest edges, and mature secondary growth.
