The Vietnamese Greenfinch is a vibrant, localized songbird endemic to the montane pine forests of southern Vietnam. It is distinguished from its relatives by its bold black-and-yellow plumage and specialized ecological niche.

Field notes

It is strictly endemic to the Da Lat Plateau in the South Annam region of Vietnam.
Unlike the more uniform green of other Chloris species, it features heavy black streaking on its back and flanks.
Its diet is highly specialized, primarily consisting of seeds from the Khasi Pine (Pinus kesiya).
The species is classified as Near Threatened due to its extremely restricted range and increasing habitat fragmentation.
During the non-breeding season, it often forms small, active flocks that forage in the upper canopy of pine trees.

Habitat

Open montane pine forests and forest edges, typically at elevations between 1,000 and 1,900 meters.

Range

Da Lat Plateau, Southern Vietnam.
