Field notes

Formerly classified as a subspecies, it is now recognized as a distinct species based on morphology and plumage.
Unlike most other eclectus species, the female Tanimbar Eclectus lacks blue or purple coloration on its mantle and breast.
The female features a prominent yellow band at the tip of its tail and yellow undertail coverts.
It is one of the smallest members of the Eclectus genus, measuring approximately 29 centimeters in length.
The species is currently listed as Vulnerable due to a restricted range and pressure from the illegal cage-bird trade.

Habitat

Primary and secondary lowland forests, forest edges, and occasional agricultural plantations.

Range

Tanimbar Islands (Yamdena and Larat) in Indonesia.
