Field notes

It is strictly endemic to the eastern and southeastern regions of Brazil.
Despite its 'plain' name, it features subtle blue primary coverts that are most visible when the bird is in flight.
The species has successfully adapted to urban environments, becoming a common sight in large cities like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
They frequently nest in tree cavities or excavate holes within active arboreal termite mounds.
Unlike many parrots, they are often observed feeding on nectar and flowers in addition to seeds and fruits.

Habitat

Humid lowland forests, montane evergreen forests, and urban parks.

Range

Eastern and Southeastern Brazil.
