Field notes

Primarily found at high elevations ranging from 2,000 to over 4,500 meters above sea level.
Unlike many other yellow-finches, it lacks bright yellow wing patches or contrasting rump colors.
Often nests in crevices within rock faces or the stone walls of traditional Andean buildings.
Frequently forms small flocks that forage on the ground for seeds and small insects.
The species shows subtle sexual dimorphism, with males being slightly more colorful than the drabber, more streaked females.
