The Superb Parrot is a slender, vibrant green Australian parrot known for its long, graduated tail and the male's striking yellow and red facial markings. It is a highly mobile species that relies on mature woodland ecosystems for nesting and foraging.

Field notes

Males exhibit a bright yellow face and throat with a scarlet crescent across the breast, while females are primarily green with pale blue cheeks.
They are colonial nesters, often with several pairs occupying different hollows within the same large, aged tree.
The species is semi-nomadic, following the seasonal flowering patterns of various Eucalyptus and Acacia species across its range.
They are strong flyers, capable of traveling long distances between their nesting sites in riverine forests and their foraging grounds in box woodlands.
Listed as Vulnerable, their population is threatened by the loss of hollow-bearing trees and the fragmentation of grassy woodland corridors.

Habitat

River Red Gum forests, Box-Gum Grassy Woodlands, and agricultural areas with remnant timber.

Range

South-eastern Australia, primarily restricted to the Murray-Darling Basin in New South Wales and northern Victoria.
