Field notes

It is a point endemic, restricted entirely to the slopes and summit of Cerro Guaiquinima in southern Venezuela.
Like other 'whitestarts,' it frequently flashes its white outer tail feathers to flush insects from foliage.
It was formerly considered a subspecies of the Tepui Whitestart (Myioborus castaneocapillus) before taxonomic revision.
The species is typically found at a narrow altitudinal range between 1,200 and 1,600 meters.
It is a core participant in mixed-species foraging flocks, often acting as a sentinel or active searcher.

Habitat

Humid montane evergreen forests and mossy elfin woodlands.
