The Reunion Stonechat is a small, endemic passerine of the Muscicapidae family, distinguished by its bold behavior and the male's striking white eyebrow.

Field notes

Known locally as the 'Tec-tec' due to its characteristic clicking alarm call.
Exhibits extreme tameness, often following hikers to catch insects disturbed by their footsteps.
It is the only member of the genus Saxicola found on the island of Réunion.
The species shows strong sexual dimorphism; males have black heads and white superciliums, while females are buff-brown.
DNA analysis suggests it diverged from the African Stonechat lineage approximately 2 million years ago.

Habitat

Found in a variety of environments including montane heathlands, clearings, and humid forests from sea level to 3,000 meters.

Range
