Field notes

Its scientific name 'polyglotta' refers to its remarkable ability to mimic the songs of numerous other bird species.
Unlike many warblers, it often perches prominently on the tops of bushes while singing to defend its territory.
It is a long-distance migrant, traveling from European breeding grounds to wintering sites in sub-Saharan West Africa.
The nest is a remarkably tidy and deep cup, often reinforced with cobwebs and decorated with lichen or birch bark.
While it primarily eats insects, it frequently supplements its diet with berries and fruit during the late summer and autumn.
