Field notes

It is one of only two species in the genus Melanotis, the other being the Blue Mockingbird.
Unlike many other mockingbirds, this species possesses a starkly contrasting white breast and belly.
It is a master mimic, capable of incorporating the songs of dozens of other bird species into its repertoire.
The species is primarily found in high-altitude environments, typically ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 meters above sea level.
It belongs to the family Mimidae, which includes thrashers, catbirds, and other mockingbirds.

Habitat

Humid pine-oak forests, cloud forest edges, and dense secondary scrub.

Range

Highlands of Southern Mexico (Chiapas), Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras.
