Field notes

Primary plumage is a vibrant leaf-green with a characteristic yellow crown and red patches on the wing bends (speculum).
It is a highly social species, typically seen in pairs or large communal roosts that can number in the hundreds.
The species is renowned for its exceptional vocal mimicry, capable of reproducing complex human speech and environmental sounds.
Their diet is primarily granivorous and frugivorous, consisting of seeds, nuts, fruits, and occasionally blossoms or leaf buds.
Taxonomically complex, this species was historically lumped with the Yellow-naped and Yellow-headed Amazons as a single species.

Habitat

Lowland tropical rainforests, deciduous woodlands, mangroves, and semi-open savanna landscapes.

Range

Northern South America, the Amazon Basin, and parts of Central America and Trinidad.
